Here is my latest large painting, “Possibilities (Brave Like Eve),” painted for the Certain Women show in Bountiful, and currently hanging in the Springville Spring Salon. Artist statement and process pictures below. I had a few sittings and lots of photographs, drawings, and hours of painting to get to the finish line on this one. It definitely challenged me all along the way, but it’s a theme I love.
Making a choice always involves sacrifice. Choosing one path over another doesn’t require a complete understanding of all that sacrifice entails, but only a belief that the chosen journey will be worth it. We may suppose that Eve in the Garden of Eden either knew, believed, or quickly found out that it is the untidy path that includes mistakes, messes, misunderstandings, disappointment, pain, uncertainty, and heartache that brings the greatest growth. She gave up what seems to have been a picture-perfect, insta-worthy life, but opened up so much more possibility - for herself, and for all of humanity.
